چکیده

Abstract. In this study, a new regional Earth system model is developed and applied to the Med-CORDEX (Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment) region. The ENEA-REG made up of two interchangeable climate models as atmospheric components (RegCM, REGional Model, WRF, Weather Research Forecasting), river (Hydrological Discharge, HD), an ocean (Massachusetts Institute Technology General Circulation MITgcm); processes taking place at land surface are represented within with possibility use several schemes different complexity. coupling between these performed through RegESM driver. Here, we present describe our evaluate its using multidecadal hindcast simulation over period 1980–2013 driven by ERA-Interim reanalysis. We show that correctly reproduce both large-scale local features Euro-Mediterranean climate, although found some remarkable biases: in particular, WRF has significant cold bias during winter northeastern bound domain warm whole continental Europe summer, while RegCM overestimates wind speed Mediterranean Sea. Similarly, component reproduces analyzed properties performances comparable state-of-art coupled contributing initiative. Our allows studying can be scenario simulations.

A climate version of the regional atmospheric modeling system

The Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS) has been widely used to simulate relatively short-term atmospheric processes. To perform full-year to multi-year model integrations, a climate version of RAMS (ClimRAMS) has been developed, and is used to simulate diurnal, seasonal, and annual cycles of atmospheric and hydrologic variables and interactions within the central United States during 1...

CORDEX – An international climate downscaling initiative

The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) is backing an international initiative called the COordinated Regional climate Downscaling EXperiment (CORDEX). The goal of the initiative is to provide regionally downscaled climate projections for most land regions of the globe, as a compliment to the global climate model projections performed within the fifth Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (...

Dynamical Downscaling: Assessment of Value Retained and Added Using the Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS)

[1] The value restored and added by dynamical downscaling is quantitatively evaluated by considering the spectral behavior of the Regional Atmospheric Modeling System (RAMS) in relation to its domain size and grid spacing. A regional climate model (RCM) simulation is compared with NCEP Reanalysis data regridded to the RAMS grid at each model analysis time for a set of six basic experiments. At ...

Distributed System Approach to Experiment Regional Competitiveness

This paper highlights a work under development on a regional competitiveness project. We report on a multi-lateral, multi-scale perspective for building cooperative relationships that enhance competitiveness Regionally. The approach mimics a System of Systems methodology whereby entity relationships are captured and defined along several dimensions involving multiple constituents and multiple d...

Decomposition of the large-scale atmospheric state driving downscaling: a perspective on dynamical downscaling for regional climate study

In this study, we provide a perspective on dynamical downscaling that includes a comprehensive view of multiple downscaling methods and a strategy for achieving better assessment of future regional climates. A regional climate simulation is generally driven by a large-scale atmospheric state obtained by a global climate simulation. We conceptualize the large-scale state based on reconstruction ...
